IAA Delegation Attends IAIS Annual Conference 2025 in Tirana, AlbaniIAA Representation at COP30 – Key Highlights from Days 2 to 6
As part of the IAA’s participation at COP30 Brazil, Yeside Kazeem continued engaging with global leaders across climate finance, data, resilience, and sustainability initiatives. Below is a summary of the key moments from Days 2 to 6.

Day 2 – Climate Finance & Cross-Sector Impacts
Yeside met with UK Climate Special Representative Rachel Kyte to discuss improving risk pricing for climate projects, with strong interest in collaboration. Sessions at the WHO, Singapore, and MDB Pavilions highlighted climate impacts on health, urban planning, and water security. She also attended the launch of SOFF, a major initiative to close global climate-data gaps.

Day 3 – OECD Engagement & AI in Climate Science
A meeting with Mathilde Mesnard (OECD) identified priority areas for actuarial contribution, including financing-gap analysis, climate-aligned investments, and decarbonisation pathways, with plans for deeper collaboration in 2026. An IPCC session explored the cautious integration of AI in climate assessments.

Day 4 – Water Systems & Carbon Markets
Highlights included discussions on hydrology and early warning systems, Nigeria’s wind-mapping initiative, the climate role of the Congo Basin, and governance challenges in Africa’s carbon markets.

Day 5 – Decarbonisation & Adaptation Finance
Sessions addressed the decarbonisation of healthcare, the global climate-skills gap, the role of nuclear energy in deep decarbonisation, and adaptation-finance needs in Africa, where actuarial modelling can support resilience investments.

Day 6 – Nature-Based Solutions & Indigenous Rights
Focus areas included soil restoration, AI-supported monitoring, satellite-enabled NBS projects across multiple regions, the importance of soil carbon, and calls for stronger protection of Indigenous rights through FPIC.
Building Bridges in Hangzhou
Actuarial leaders from around the world gathered in Hangzhou this week for the 20th Annual Conference of the China Association of Actuaries (CAA)—a milestone celebrating two decades of advancing the profession in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. This year’s theme, “An Intelligence-Driven Future,” underscored the sector’s accelerating shift toward data, technology, and innovation.
The IAA was pleased to take part in this important event. Max Happacher, our nominated President-Elect for 2026, and Karla Zúñiga-Cortés, who leads our Member Development and Diversity initiatives, were on site to connect with peers, exchange insights, and explore new avenues for collaboration.
They joined representatives from the Society of Actuaries, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, and the Actuaries Institute Australia, alongside hundreds of practitioners and thought leaders. These cross-border conversations continue to shape the future direction of our global profession.
As the CAA celebrates 20 years of its flagship conference, we look forward to the partnerships and initiatives that will continue strengthening actuarial practice worldwide.
IAA Delegation Attends IAIS Annual Conference 2025 in Tirana, Albania
Charles Cowling, Immediate Past President, and Irfan Yar, International Relations Officer, represented the IAA at the 7th Sharm Rendezvous in The International Actuarial Association (IAA) participated in the IAIS Annual Conference 2025, held in Tirana, Albania.
The IAA delegation, represented by Bożena Hinton (IAA President), Mathieu Langelier (IAA Executive Director), and Irfan Yar (IAA International Relations Officer), joined international leaders to discuss key developments in insurance supervision and the evolving role of actuaries in supporting regulatory frameworks.
This high-level gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the IAA and global insurance stakeholders, fostering dialogue on advancing actuarial capacity and promoting sound supervision practices worldwide.
IAA Asia Round Table and Asian Actuarial Conference in Bangkok, Thailand
The IAA's Asia Subcommittee brought together association leaders from across the region for its highly anticipated face-to-face meeting. The gathering served as a platform for dialogue, enabling the committee to gain insights into the innovative activities and evolving needs of associations throughout Asia.
The meeting drew the participation of delegates from 12 countries of the Asia region, alongside representatives from 4 international associations. This exchange of perspectives will directly shape the committee's workplan, ensuring it remains responsive to the most pressing needs and opportunities emerging across the region.
A special highlight of the gathering was the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Society of Actuaries of Thailand, celebrating five decades of outstanding contributions to the actuarial profession in the region.
The collaborative session reinforces the IAA's commitment to fostering stronger connections and providing targeted support to associations throughout Asia.
Productive Discussions at the 7th Sharm Rendezvous
Charles Cowling, Immediate Past President, and Irfan Yar, International Relations Officer, represented the IAA at the 7th Sharm Rendezvous in Sharm El Sheikh. They met with key stakeholders to discuss the future of the actuarial profession in the MENA region.
Meetings were held with:
* H.E. Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority
* Alaa El-Zoheiry, Chairman of the Insurers Federation of Egypt
* Chakib Abouzaid, Secretary General of the General Arab Insurance Federation
* Actuaries from the Egyptian Actuarial Association and other Arab countries
* Regulatory representatives from Sudan and across the region
Discussions focused on the challenges facing actuaries in Egypt and the wider MENA region, as well as practical opportunities to support the development of the profession.
Events such as the Sharm Rendezvous continue to play an important role in strengthening regional cooperation and advancing actuarial practice.
CAS 2025 Annual Meeting – IAA Participation
The IAA participated in the CAS 2025 Annual Meeting held this week in Austin, Texas. IAA President-Elect Mike Lombardi represented the Association and delivered an update on the IAA’s current initiatives and areas of collaboration with the CAS.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to engage with CAS leadership and Board members, reinforce international cooperation, and highlight ongoing work across the global actuarial community.
We thank the CAS leadership and Board members for the warm welcome and constructive discussions.
IAA President Attends Annual Conference of the Institute of Actuaries of Japan (IAJ)
The IAA was Honored to have its President, Bozenna Hinton, attend the Annual Conference of the Institute of Actuaries of Japan (IAJ) this week in Tokyo.
This visit reflects the Association’s continued commitment to strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange with its Full Member Associations worldwide. The IAA extends its sincere appreciation to the IAJ for their warm hospitality and ongoing partnership in advancing the actuarial profession on a global scale.
Looking ahead, the IAA is excited to return to Japan in November next year for the 33rd International Congress of Actuaries (ICA 2026)—a key moment to reunite and celebrate the global actuarial community.
